Riding Lessons
During lessons,
I teach students the following information plus a whole lot more:
Safety on the ground and in the saddle.
Ground work.
Grooming, saddling, and bridling.
Balanced riding position.
How to read the horse and understand the nature of the horse.
How to be light and soft with the horse.
How to be more confident with the horse.
I guide you through excersizes that improve balance, coordination,
and rhythm.
Benefits
Improves your relationship and communication with your horse.
Improves the rider's flexibility, muscle tone, physical coordination
and balance.
Improves attention span, awareness, and concentration.
Helps the rider visualize what they want to accomplish.
Great stress reliever after a long work week.
For kids, riding instruction is a fun, productive activity that builds
character and compassion for animals. It teaches responsibility and
enhances confidence. I promote a "can do" attitude with all
of my students.
Requirements
A positive, up attitude, and an open mind.
My horses and I give you our best. I expect the same from you.
Safety helmet. Ensure that your helmet stays on secure and covers
as much of your head as possible.
Appropriate riding boots. This can be an english boot or western boot.
The boot should have a 1" to 2" heel and should have little
to no tread on the sole. Avoid rubber boots, boots with a heavy tread,
and boots that tie around the leg. For the optimum level of safety,
I prefer to see students in a boot that will slip off of the foot easily
without having to unlace the boot.
Appropriate helmets and boots can be found relatively inexpensive
and do not need to be brand new to be effective.
Recommendations
Keep a journal of what you are learning. There is a lot of information
provided during a lesson. Journaling makes information easier to retain
and is a good reference. A spiral notebook works well.
Policies
Payment & Booking - Payment for lessons is due at the time
of booking. Lessons will not be booked until payment is made. Lesson
day/time will not be held until payment is made.
Rescheduling - Blocks of 5 lessons are to be booked in 5 consecutive
weeks. Use your lesson or loose your lesson. This is your weekly time
slot that you have bought for yourself. Should you know in advance that
you will not be able to attend a lesson for reasons such as vacation
or business travel, then that lesson must be made up at another time
within your 5 week time period. If the lesson is not made up in the
5 week time period, then the lesson is lost or the additional 10% difference
can be paid on the 5 lesson package to reschedule the missed lesson.
Reasons for missing a lesson such as sleep over and birthday parties,
car repair, meetings, forgetting a lesson time, your fifth uncle once
removed from your father's side coming to town, lack of enthusiasm,
etc. will be a lost lesson. Please don't miss your lesson.
Foul Weather & Illness - If the weather becomes uncomfortably
cold (i.e., in the 30's and below) or dangerously windy with dangerous
travel conditions, then I will call you to reschedule your lesson. The
lesson can be made up in the 5 week time period. This same policy applies
to students who become ill. If your lesson is in the afternoon and conditions
do not initially appear favorable at 8:00 AM, that does not mean that
your lesson is cancelled. Remember that this is Colorado and conditions
can significantly change within a few hours.
Additional Notes - The policies above are exactly that…policies.
Should extenuating circumstances occur in your life that are outside
of the policies described above, please discuss them with me to see
if other arrangements can be made. Should non-extenuating circumstances
be occurring in your life but you just think you'd like to get a break,
then do not approach me with it. You know the difference. I have to
treat all my customers fairly and my energy needs to be put into my
horses and students.
Payments may be exchanged for services such as horse training and/or
lessons upon approval.
No refunds.
